The Beginning
What Got Us Started
Simply put, the love of Christ was the catalyst in starting God’s Blessings Plan. I would walk by some the most vulnerable and “least seen” people, in need of help each day as I rushed back and forth to work. Riding the train wrapped up in my own world, rushing to pick up my child from daycare, I became generally hardened to what had become a “normal” part of living in the city.
Over the course of many weeks in the fall of 2017, during my daily rushed commute, I prayed to God to show me how He wanted me to help. I didn’t want to give money to possibly give aid in destructive coping mechanisms, but I couldn’t bear to keep walking past all of God’s children that He loves so dearly, as though they didn’t even exist. I looked up one day during my walk to work from the train and finally my eyes were opened. I saw a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk, surrounded by pigeons and feeding them bread from a sandwich he was eating. It was a moment that stopped me in my tracks. How can this man, who has so little, be so willing to (gladly!) share his food in such an unselfish way while I was too scared to even look him in the eye? That day I discussed it with my husband and we purchased 50 “Blessings Bags” with hats, gloves, a scarf, a protein bar, hand warmers, toe warmers and a rain poncho. We also purchased 50 $15 gift cards to McDonalds and hand wrote in each one the blessings of God and put them in the bags as well. The Lord showed me in that specific moment in the middle of November of 2017 anyone can help those around them if their heart is open and willing to love, the action will follow if we just trust Him.
“Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” -2 Corinthians 8:12
Who We Are
God’s Blessings Plan is a registered 501c3 charitable nonprofit organization that focuses on Community Development to those most vulnerable in the community.
Our mission is to show the love and compassion of Christ to our local communities through strategic outreaches and programs, designed to meet needs and leave people with a sense of love and dignity without discrimination. We provide food, toys for children during the holidays, toiletries, coats, back to school supplies, diapers, wipes, menstrual products and disaster relief. Our vision is to be a beacon of light, hope and equality for the underserved and underrepresented throughout the world.
We are an organization that shows the love of Christ and others to all that cross our path and provide a safe, fun and judgement free environment. We strive to embody 1 John 3:17-18 “If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion – how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”
Our services are open to all people, no matter their religious background.
We are proud members of the Simply the Basics Hygiene Bank Association, which is the first National Hygiene Bank. By joining the Hygiene Bank we have adopted the highest quality control standards on receiving, storing and distributing hygiene products.
